Glenn Fenster had a brutal Monday. He weathered hail on the Blue Ridge Parkway and drenching rains in Roanoke, all in the name of his son, Nyle — all from the seat of his bike.
Fenster, 48, is on his fourth cross-country trek to create awareness about epilepsy, which his son Nyle has. The elder Fenster started his bike ride April 27 in Miami and, when complete, will have traveled nearly 8,000 miles to Canada.
“He inspires me every day by showing his courage,” Fenster said of his son, who was diagnosed at age 2.
Fenster, who arrived in Lynchburg late Monday afternoon, was aiming to make it to Charlottesville by evening. Clad in a T-shirt bearing the name of his Web site (destinymaker.org), Fenster spoke about his trip and how much he misses his son.
