Lynchburg schools to discuss drug-testing policy today

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Lynchburg School Board members will discuss amendments to the division’s drug-testing policy at a meeting today.

As a result of this year’s fiscal woes, division officials decided to cut back on drug testing for student athletes next year. The board voted during the budget process to move from testing all student athletes to random testing. The school system first implemented testing in 1990.

Currently, the division spends a total of $40,000 to test each student athlete at least once. Next year, the budget allocates $10,000 for the testing.

The board is also expected to honor one of the division’s Play It Smart athletes, approve the annual personnel report and appoint Superintendent Paul McKendrick to a new four-year term. The new term would start July 1 and end June 30, 2013.
