Any further discussion between the Appomattox Town Council and Board of Supervisors concerning the town’s participation in the U.S. 460 water line will have to wait until next year, board supervisors agreed Monday.
The board held off on responding to a letter from Appomattox Town Manager Bart Van Nieuwenhuise, dated Oct. 16, which outlined the town’s request to further discuss its conditions for signing on to the water line.
Specifically, the letter called for a discussion of the town’s request for a boundary line adjustment, which would extend town limits westward along U.S. 460 to Police Tower Road.
The letter stated that the adjustment was “the only outstanding issue” that stood between the town and county reaching an agreement on the issue.
The board has been negotiating with the town over a water line deal since 2007.
The last meeting between the two bodies to discuss the water line was canceled in September and has yet to be rescheduled.
The board has scheduled a workshop with Appomattox and Pamplin Town Councils at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 at Central Virginia Community College.
County schedules hearing on broadband authority
The Appomattox County Board of Supervisors took the first step in establishing a broadband authority Monday night, scheduling a public hearing to discuss the matter next month.
On Oct. 29, the Tobacco Commission approved a $50,000 grant for the creation of a broadband authority in Appomattox County, the board announced.
The board scheduled a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Appomattox Community Center at 220 Community Lane to discuss the adoption of an authority, saying urgency was necessary to allow private sector partners time to qualify for stimulus funds.
“I feel like folks are yearning for this and we need to pursue it,” said Vice Chairman Gary Tanner.
