»  Comments | Post a Comment

Three area law enforcement agencies are searching for an Amherst County man who is considered dangerous.

Donald Lee Peters Jr., 37, is wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was last known to live on Pendleton Drive in Amherst County, but his current whereabouts are unknown.

Peters has outstanding warrants from the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police. In a news release issued Friday, officials said they are concerned about him because of his pending weapons violations and because his sex offender status is violent in nature.

The general public is urged not to approach him if seen, but to call local law enforcement or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline, (888) 798-5900.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information.

Peters is described as 5 feet, 10 inches, 170 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. According to the state’s sex offender registry, he was convicted in 2001 of taking indecent liberties with a child with whom he had a custodial relationship.
