»  Comments | Post a Comment

Campbell County School Board members will take a look at proposed changes to the division’s policy regarding parents who also are registered sex-offenders at their meeting Monday.

The new proposed language specifies more explicit guidelines regarding conditions for a parent who also is a sex offender to visit the school or school functions.

If you’re going

• What: Campbell County School Board meeting
• Where: Campbell County Technical Center, on U.S. 29 behind Yellow Branch Elementary School.
• When: 7 p.m. Monday
• For more information: www.campbell.k12.va.us

Under the new language, parents who also are registered sex-offenders may not come to the school or to a school function without advance written approval from the principal. It also states that while at school, any such parent must be monitored to ensure he or she does not come into contact with any children other than his or her own.

In other business, the board is expected to vote on a policy language change that would require the board to develop a summary of the Family Life (sex-ed) program available on request for parents.

Several presentations are planned for the board meeting, including an update on a new program combining online, distance learning with an on-site teacher. The program is called eL.I.V.E. and is used for physics classes in Rustburg and Altavista high schools.
