Political forums are filling the calendar in Lynchburg with less than three weeks remaining until Election Day on Nov. 3.
Two forums are scheduled this week between Del. Shannon Valentine, D-Lynchburg, and her Republican challenger, Scott Garrett.
The two will meet in a question-and-answer session at 7 p.m. Thursday at Forest Road United Methodist Church, 2805 Old Forest Road. Delta Kappa Gamma, an educators’ sorority, will sponsor the forum.
On Friday at noon, Valentine and Garrett plan to meet again, this time in front of Kiwanis Club members, at the Presbyterian Home located off V.E.S. Road.
Coming Sunday morning on TV, last week’s Windsor Hills Neighborhood debate between Valentine and Garrett will be broadcast at 9 a.m. on CW5, which is channel 5 on most Lynchburg TV providers.
Andre Whitehead, executive producer of the program, said it will show the two candidates’ discussion of a questionnaire Valentine answered for Virginia Free, a business lobbying group that advocates revenue sources to build roads.
Tonight, a non-debate forum involving Valentine along with surrogates representing both gubernatorial candidates will be held at the Lynchburg Public Library, 2315 Memorial Ave.
A newly formed Lynchburg branch of My Rural America sponsors tonight’s forum. Planners say it will focus on job creation, clean energy, access to health care, and the special needs of children and veterans.
Del. Ben Cline, R-Rockbridge, will speak tonight for Republican Bob McDonnell in the race for governor, and Lynchburg Council member Bert Dodson will speak on behalf of Democrat Creigh Deeds.
Garrett will speak at a health-care forum at Liberty University tonight at 6:30.
