Fire destroyed a home in Norwood in Nelson County Friday morning and displaced a family of four, an official said.
The 8:25 a.m. fire occurred at a single-family, one-story wood-frame home at 71 Roundtop Lane, said Ray Uttaro, Nelson County’s emergency services director.
No one was home and the structure was engulfed when firefighters arrived, Uttaro said.
Firefighters and rescue units responded from Lovingston, Gladstone, Piney River and Faber, along with a truck equipped with foam from the Wintergreen Volunteer Fire Department, Uttaro said.
No cause was immediately determined. Firefighters were extinguishing hot spots late this morning. The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office will investigate.
The home was a complete loss, and the American Red Cross was called to assist an adult and three children, ages 17, 10 and 9, who lived there, Uttaro said.
