Appomattox

- The Appomattox County High School FFA took second place in the Herdsman Contest at the Youth Sheep Show held Oct. 2-4 during the State Fair. The Herdsman Contest honors exhibitors with the most educational, cleanest and inviting show area. The following ACHS students placed in their Youth Sheep Show classes: Carson Baldwin, sixth in showmanship, ninth in market lamb and ninth high individual in premier exhibitor contest; Mallory Baldwin, 10th in showmanship and 11th in market lamb class; Terrell Franklin, 12th in showmanship and seventh in market lamb class; Jordan Heinrichs, second in showmanship, 11th in overall showmanship senior showmanship, ninth in market lamb class, and sixth high individual in premier exhibitor contest; William Lewis, 13th in showmanship, 10th in market lamb class and eighth high individual in premier exhibitor contest; Jalen Thomas, 10th in showmanship and 14th in market lamb class; and Mary Beth Wingfield, seventh in showmanship and 11th in market lamb class.
Bedford
- The Jefferson Forest High School Marching Band took first place and was named the Grand Champion for the highest score regardless of class at the Tennessee Valley Showcase Marching Band Competition held Oct. 17 in Kingsport, Tenn. The Marching Cavaliers were awarded the Mayor’s Trophy, earned caption awards for Best Drum Majors and Best Color Guard in Class AAA and had the highest scores of the day in Music Effect and Visual Execution.

- The E.C. Glass Drama Department is organizing an All-Alumni Reunion in conjuction with the celebration of 100 years of drama activities at E.C. Glass High School and the 30th anniversary of E.C. Glass Theatre, the school’s drama club. A variety of reunion events are scheduled for Feb. 19-21, 2010, and alumni from throughout the years are encouraged to attend. - The 2009-2010 Glass Yearbook order form is available online at the E.C. Glass Web site. The yearbook will be delivered in the spring.
- Throughout the school year, the Mercy Care Council of E.C. Glass is collecting used books, broken I-Pods (include note to explain what is broken), and used cell phones. All proceeds benefit the Mercy Care Center in Nairobi, Kenya.
