WSLS has learned that the FBI is assisting the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in their investigation of the two Virginia Tech students found killed in the Caldwell Fields area of the county one week ago today.

The FBI is also lending its resources to help with testing on any evidence.

Virginia State Police and neighboring local police agencies are also helping in the case.

Deputies say a man walking his dog found the bodies of Heidi Childs and David Metzler shot to death around 8 a.m. Aug. 27 at the campsite in the George Washington-Jefferson National Forest.

Metzler was inside a car, while Childs' body was outside the car on the ground.

The students were dating. Their families laid them to rest this past Monday.

Investigators say they are still searching for leads and want to talk with anyone who was in the Caldwell Fields area from last Wednesday morning unti last Thursday morning. If you have any information, call the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at (540) 382-2951.
