Townhallers just 'patriots speaking up'
So The News & Advance and the authors of some letters to to the editor think the recent town hall meetings across the country were uncivil. They have been described as mobs, racists, Nazis and not representative of the districts that these legislators represent.

I suspect those who objected to the tenor of these meeting would have been Tory loyalists back in 1776. Had they had their way we would still be subjects of the British crown.

What obviously has not been recognized is that these folks were fed up with legislators who were proposing health care legislation that most had not read, and could not intelligently answer questions about. No, they didn’t want to hear what these people thought but wanted to spin their own talking points, with an attempt at justifying their loyalty to the party position. They obviously have no recognition that these attendees elected them. They are the ultimate boss.

Isn’t it ironic that many people in these “mobs” had read the 1,000 plus page legislation and brought copies to the meetings?

One New York congressman holding such a meeting stated that he would vote for the legislation, regardless of his district’s position, if he thought it the best for his constituents. Talk about arrogance! This is what people are fed up with — the idea that they aren’t intelligent enough to know their own best interests. Washington always knows best.

No, these were not “mobs” being uncivil. They were patriots speaking up, yelling when necessary, to get their representatives’ attention, trying to prevent a costly and poorly thought-out legislation. Some reform is obviously needed, but these people think this is not it.

After the totally inept response at most of these meetings, if there is not a massive turnout against the guilty legislators in November 2010, then we all deserve what we will get.

Don’t say we weren’t warned.
