A Moneta man was killed in a trench collapse Friday afternoon, according to officials with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Doyle LaPradd, 38, was working with two other men to install a septic tank off of Falling Creek Road, about three miles south of Bedford, Maj. Ricky Gardner said in a news release.

Dispatchers received the emergency call at 1:45 p.m., Gardner said, and rescue workers and deputies arrived at the scene at 1:54 p.m.

LaPradd, of Dickerson Mill Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, Gardner said. According to the news release, there were no safety walls in place.

The Virginia Department of Labor and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the incident, Gardner said.

LaPradd was working for M.C. Lapradd Construction, the sheriff’s office said.
