Writer: GOP for health care status quo
If your only concerns with our nation’s health care situation are that insurance companies don’t make enough money and they need more friends in the United States Congress, then Republican Rep. Bob Goodlatte is your man.

At the recent town hall meeting in Lynchburg, Mr. Goodlatte repeatedly touted the enormous benefit of individuals tapping into large pools like big coporations do.

Well, here’s a news flash, corporations do not get wildly lower premiums than smaller companies and, in some cases, individuals. I suspect Mr. Goodlate knew this and that’s why he never offered any statistics to back it up, even though it is the centerpiece of the Republican alternative.

For all the people attending the town hall, including the obvious ringers Republicans put in the audience, ask yourself why Mr. Goodlatte and his fellow Republicans didn’t tackle the health care issue and the 1,000 percent rise of the national debt since 1980 when they had control of Congress and the presidency from 2000 to 2006.

Why did it take a Democratic president and Congress to unearth this new-found commitmtment to solving long-term issues like health care and the national debt?

My guess is it didn’t, and if they are successful in destroying the Obama presidency as planned, they will return to the same old borrow-and-spend, “I got mine” economic philosophy that brought us to this point.

Republicans sacrificed our military men and women in Iraq for an oil policy; they sacrificed our economy to make the super rich richer; don’t let them do it again with health care. Three strikes and we’re out.

U.S. 29 stats
I think you would be interested in a fact regarding U.S. 29 in Charlottesville. My son came down to Lynchburg from Falls Church (near Washington) a few months ago and counted 19 traffic lights at Charlottesville, which slowed down traffic.

The next time, a few months later, he counted 21 traffic lights. Did they add these additional lights to increase sales in the many stores on the route? Who knows?

I might add that the count is not exact because he spent so much time avoiding other cars switching lanes on that impossible highway.
