Writer: Cline a friend of small business
As someone whose family runs a small business in Amherst County, I was pleased to learn that Del. Ben Cline has been endorsed for re-election by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).

I have seen the effect that the economy has had on the national and local economies, and I am glad to know that a man of integrity and common sense like Del. Cline is representing us in Richmond.

He has been working to encourage job creation here in our part of Virginia by keeping taxes and regulations low.

We need his kind of leadership in these tough times, and that’s why I’m supporting him in his re-election to the House of Delegates in November.

Valentine’s the one
I appreciate the service of Shannon Valentine as member of the House of Delegates for Lynchburg and a portion of Amherst County during the last four years. She has worked hard and conscientiously for the well being of all of her constituents.

One of her accomplishments I most appreciate is her careful attention to transportation issues. She has been instrumental in seeing that Lynchburg is receiving additional passenger train service beginning in October. In so doing, she has worked with both the Kaine administration and area Republicans. She recognizes that improved transportation is an important key to the Lynchburg area’s future economic health.

Shannon Valentine is above all a person of compassion, faith and integrity. I strongly support her candidacy for re-election Nov. 3.

A great legislator
I am proud to be casting my vote for Shannon Valentine in November.

She has proven herself to be an astute negotiator, an accessible representative and a conscientious leader. Her legislative accomplishments and future agenda reflect a deep commitment to the 23rd District.

Del. Valentine is well-positioned to tackle the tough challenges we face and turn them into opportunities for economic growth and community development. She values inclusion and is an excellent steward of the diversity that graces our district.

Her core values and leadership approaches are what we continue to need, especially now.

Online information
I would like to respond to Julio Uchimura’s Sept. 20 letter in The News & Advance. He indicated that the entire population of Lynchburg must not have read HR 3200 — one of the health care reform bills in the House of Representatives — because no one had requested the paper copy from the public library.

For anyone interested who isn’t already aware, all bills proposed or passed in the House or U.S. Senate can be found in full online at www.opencongress.org.
