Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, former Gov. Linwood Holton and lots of local officials will celebrate Thursday’s start of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor service in Lynchburg during a special event this afternoon at the Kemper Street station.
The celebration is part of the inaugural Whistle Stop Tour, which will travel from Washington to Lynchburg today, arriving in the Hill City at about 3:55 p.m.
The celebration, open to the public, begins at 3:30 p.m. It will include music by the Heritage High School Band and model train displays; participants also can register to win two free round-trip Amtrak tickets along the Northeast Corridor, which runs from Lynchburg to Boston.
