Fiscal sanity in short supply in state
Where are those fiscal conservatives when you need them?
Several years ago, local governments began raising the speed limit on roads taking drivers around their cities. I thought this was strange. There no longer appeared to be a safety issue nor an interest in preserving fuel.
Now it appears very likely our conservative General Assembly will be raising the speed limit on rural highways. Our new governor stated it would make drivers more efficient. I guess this means drivers will get to their destinations more quickly and, consequently, have more time to devote to the task at hand?
Who is going to pay for the labor and materials for these new signs? Remember the effort to go from the American standard to the metric standard for highway signs.
Albeit, this may not mean a lot of money when compared to other government expenditures. But quit your complaining when you find larger class sizes for your child, or when you hear your child’s teacher was dismissed, or your sheriffs deputy was no longer there to help you, or heaven forbid, your house is burning down! And do not complain when fuel rises to $4 or $5 per gallon. Now, you can be more efficient in your driving habits.
Where are the Neal Bortiz, Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh fans of Central Virginia when we need you so desperately? You are about as scarce as that big buck on the last day of hunting season!

The right to vote
It is my understanding that all college students in Lynchburg have the right to vote.
If so, why would anyone suggest depriving Liberty University students of their right to vote?
Gee, I wonder if a person suggesting that might have a hidden agenda? Maybe it would be OK if they were bused to the polls by ACORN.

Where you live
In order to alleviate the problem of crowding at the Heritage Elementary precinct, why not require students who live off campus to vote in the precinct for their actual addresses? I wonder if there are some students who do not live on campus but register as if they did.
Voters are required to register in particular precincts according to where they live. They may not vote in the one nearest their colleges unless that is their “domain.”
