Puppies dumped in Franklin County

»  Comments | Post a Comment

FRANKLIN CO. - The Franklin County Humane Society is dealing with the ongoing problem of animals being left at dumps.

A man found eight puppies crammed inside a storage tote, with the lid on, at the Burnt Chimney dump two weeks ago. Just last week, two more puppies were found abandoned at the Grassy Hill dump. Another puppy and a kitten were found abandoned at Franklin County dumps in January.

The humane society posted notices on dumpsters several years ago, warning people that it is illegal to abandon animals at dumps. Many of the signs have been removed.

The humane society says it is always willing to take in animals, but asks that people not just drop them off outside the shelter. Call or stop by during business hours to make proper arrangements.

Seven of the puppies from the first litter will leave the foster home for permanent homes this weekend. Applications are pending for the adoption of the eighth puppy.

The two puppies from the second litter are up for adoption. They can go home next week.
