Former Rep. Virgil Goode will speak at a meeting of the Lynchburg Tea Party on March 4, said Mark Lloyd, leader of the group.
Goode, who represented the 5th District from 1997 through 2008, will speak about the federal budget, debt and deficit. He also will take questions from the group, which plans to meet at 7 p.m. at the Monte Carlo restaurant at 3230 Old Forest Road, Lloyd said.
Since January, some political pundits have speculated that Goode might run for Congress again next fall, even though he said in July that he wouldn’t seek the Republican nomination.
“Many members of the TEA Party across the 5th District openly discuss that Virgil would get their support, even with a Independent run,” Lloyd said.
The March 4 meeting will come less than a week after Saturday’s Tea Party-sponsored debate at Brookville High School among the candidates for the 5th District Republican primary on June 8.
