A Chatham man charged with first-degree murder was denied bond Friday after a prosecutor appealed an earlier bond set by a general district court judge.
Roy Elmer Walden, 46, was granted a $100,000 bond in Pittsylvania County General District Court on Friday morning. Les Adams, an assistant commonwealth’s attorney for the county, appealed the decision and another bond hearing was arranged in circuit court, where Judge Charles Strauss denied Walden bond.
Walden is charged in the Sunday stabbing death of Victor Elvoyd McCain.
Pittsylvania County deputies found McCain’s body after responding to 3936 Green Pond Road about 7 p.m. Sunday. They arrested Walden at 11:32 p.m. without incident.
