Seven candidates for the Republican nomination to run for Congress in the 5th District are expected to show up for a debate Saturday at Brookville High School.
The Lynchburg Tea Party organized the debate, which is to begin at 7 p.m.
Len Stevens of WSET-TV will be the debate moderator.
Candidates will be asked to answer questions from Tea Party members, the audience and from the candidates themselves, said Mark Lloyd, chairman of the Lynchburg Tea Party.
“We will have a score card for voters to rate the candidates,” Lloyd said.
This will be the second of three debates Tea Party members are organizing. The first was held in Charlottesville in January, and another is scheduled for 2 p.m. March 20 at Danville Community College.
The Republican Party is sponsoring the Danville debate jointly with the Tea Party, according to Nigel Coleman of the Danville Tea Party. The Republicans also plan to sponsor other debates.
The seven candidates are running in the 5th District Republican primary June 8.
They are: Ken Boyd of Albemarle County; Ron Ferrin of Campbell County; state Sen. Robert Hurt of Chatham; Jim McKelvey of Franklin County; Michael McPadden of Albemarle County; Feda Morton of Fluvanna County; and Laurence Verga of Albemarle County.
