McDonnell selects three more for cabinet

Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell this morning announced three more appointments to his cabinet in a press conference at the State Capitol.

Jim Duffey will serve as the commonwealth’s next secretary of technology. He is a former vice chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

Doug Domenech will serve as secretary of natural resources. He is a former official with the U.S. Department of the Interior.

McDonnell named former Del. Terrie Suit of Virginia Beach as assistant to the governor for commonwealth preparedness.

Duffey is a former vice president of Electric Data Services Corp., where he worked for 24 years, McDonnell said.

Jim has worked around the globe at the highest levels in the information technology industry,“ McDonnell said. “He has managed billion-dollar budgets and thousands of employees. And he understands Virginia’s high tech community well through his recent leadership as vice chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council. This broad experience has prepared Jim well for the position of secretary of technology.“

Domenech, McDonnell said, is a Virginia Tech graduate who rose to the No. 2 staff position in the Interior Department.

Doug brings a wealth of experience at both the state and national levels and joins with me in my commitment to preserving Virginia’s incredible natural beauty and resources, from the Shenandoah Valley to the Chesapeake Bay,“ McDonnell said in a statement.

McDonnell said he and Suit worked together representing Virginia Beach and said that the former delegate, who is the wife of a Navy SEAL, is knowledgeable about the military and security matters. She served on the state’s military advisory council.
The governor-elect said he would maintain her position as a cabinet-level appointment.

“I witnessed Terrie’s leadership on matters directly affecting the safety and security of all Virginians, from military issues to providing better housing assistance for those in need to protecting victims of domestic violence,“ McDonnell said.
