One of the drivers involved in a two-vehicle wreck Thursday morning died, according to a Danville Police Department news release.

James Franklin Layne, 83 of Pittsylvania County, was pronounced dead at the hospital after the vehicles crashed at the intersection of West Main Street and Gatewood Avenue after 10 a.m., the release stated.

It’s not yet determined if Layne died of injuries related to the wreck or of other medical causes.

Both drivers — the sole occupants of the vehicles —- were transported to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment. The other driver was injured, but is listed in stable condition.

Layne’s body will be transported to the medical examiner’s office to determine the cause of death.

Police continue to investigate the details surrounding the crash.
