A Dry Fork man died after he was ejected from the SUV he was driving, which then hit another car head-on in Pittsylvania County on Tuesday night, according to Virginia State Police.

Timothy Wayne Powell, 25, was pronounced dead at Danville Regional Medical Center shortly after 10 p.m., said Sgt. RobeRt Carpentieri, state police public information officer. The wreck occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on Rt. 750 (Whitmell School Road) just north of Rt. 866.

According to the report, the 1984 Chevy Tahoe Powell was driving ran off the side of the roadway and he was ejected from the SUV. Carpentieri said it did not appear Powell was wearing a seatbelt. The Tahoe then veered back onto the roadway and struck a 2007 Ford Fusion head-on.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was Carroll Lee Cooper; his condition is not known. State police are still investigating the wreck.
