An altercation between a teenage girl and a woman Thursday night ended in a shooting at James Crossing Apartments.
Lynchburg Police went to an apartment on Greenfield Drive around 11:30 p.m. about a malicious wounding, said Capt. Al Thomas.
When officers arrived, they found the victim, Kierra Culpepper, 20, had been shot in the chest. She was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital.
Officers found their suspect still at the apartment complex. The 17-year-old girl was arrested and charged with felony assault and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
She is held in the Lynchburg Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
Thomas said a physical fight between the two sparked the shooting.
