General Assembly elects Bedford judge

»  Comments | Post a Comment

RICHMOND — Louis Harrison was elected judge of Bedford Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on Thursday by the Senate and House of Delegates.

Harrison was elected to a six-year term starting Feb. 1.

Two key committees had approved Harrison for the seat Wednesday, more than a year after he was first considered for the post.

Legislators had delayed Harrison’s election because of questions about a document Harrison had signed during the federal prosecution of fundraising practices involving the National D-Day Memorial about 10 years ago.

Del. Lacey Putney, I-Bedford, and Harrison’s sponsor, said he contacted the committee members and explained, to the satisfaction of most of them, the legal situation Harrison was caught up in during the D-Day case.
