MONETA — First responders in Moneta didn’t have to travel far to respond to an emergency.
That’s because a car crashed through the rear of the Moneta Rescue Squad building Monday afternoon.
The driver, whose name has not been released, came to a stop in the bathroom.
One rescue squad member was in the building, but she was not hurt.
“She looked like she was fine and she was helping take care of the patient,“ said Rescue Squad Chaplain John Huddleston. “She rose to the job and did the job.”
The crash remains under investigation, but police believe a medical emergency could have caused the driver to run off Virginia 122.
Huddleston said he believes damages are in the neighborhood of $20,000.
By Monday evening, he said the hole had been boarded up, but the rescue squad building did not have power.
In the meantime, he said, the rescue squad will operate out of the fire department in downtown Moneta and the old rescue building on Old Moneta Road.
