Lynchburg’s first sprayground, at Riverside Park, is scheduled to open July 31.
The opening day event, from noon to 1:30 p.m., will feature food and drinks along with the main attraction — a 1,900-square-foot aquatic playground.
The amenity was developed as part of the master plan for the renovation of Riverside Park; the Junior League of Lynchburg donated $125,000 to help build the sprayground in partnership with the City of Lynchburg.
The sprayground includes dumping buckets, spraying lake fish, pop jets and tulip sprays. It will be open to the public but is not meant for organized, large-scale groups. All children ages 12 and under must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian.
After July 31, the sprayground will be open daily from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. through Sept. 30.
