A dryer fire evacuated a townhouse on Lynchburg College's campus Thursday morning.
About a dozen students were evacuated, authorities said. Three security guards were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.
Emergency dispatchers received a call about the fire at 7:54 a.m. It apparently began in a dryer in the townhouse's basement, but the city fire marshal is investigating, said Battalion Chief Ninette Heath.
The fire was out within minutes. Heath praised the three security guards, whom she said ensured the students were out of the building quickly.
