RICHMOND -The House of Delegates approved a resolution Friday honoring Jim Bibby, a Madison Heights resident and former major league pitcher who won more than 100 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates and other teams.
The resolution says, in part, "the General Assembly mourn(s) the passing of a fine baseball star and outstanding Virginian, James Blair Bibby." It is sponsored by Del. Scott Garrett, R-Lynchburg, and co-sponsored by Dels. Kathy Byron, R-Campbell County; Ben Cline, R-Rockbridge; and Sen. Steve Newman, R-Lynchburg.
Bibby died Feb. 16 of bone cancer. He was 65.
Bibby earned a World Series ring with the Pirates in 1979.
After he retired from Major League Baseball in 1984, Bibby served as a pitching coach for Lynchburg’s minor league baseball team for 15 years.
