A man’s body was found in the James River near the Snowden Bridge on Sunday morning.
Major Ricky Gardner, chief deputy with the Bedford County sheriff’s office said in a news release that a man called 911 while fishing, saying he found a body near the Snowden Bridge, which connects Bedford and Amherst counties.
Bedford County deputies and the Big Island Fire and Rescue found the body of a white man in the water on the Bedford side of the river, Gardner said in the news release.
The man’s identity is unknown and there are no missing people in Bedford County. Investigators are contacting surrounding localities to check their missing people lists. The body will be taken to the Roanoke medical examiners office for an autopsy, to determine cause of death and identity.
