Spout Spring woman dies after wreck

A Spout Spring woman died after a single-vehicle wreck in Campbell County on Tuesday morning.

Sgt. J. Turner with Virginia State Police said Betty Jean Blanks, 67, was driving her 1998 Toyota RAV4 on Doss Road just west of Virginia 24 at about 9:53 a.m.

The SUV ran off the side of the road, Turner said, and struck a tree.

Turner said he did not know whether Blanks was pronounced dead at the scene or if she was taken to the hospital first.

He said there were no skid marks in the area where Blanks ran off the road, and it did not appear whether she had been speeding.

Turner said alcohol was not involved in the wreck.

He added police did not know whether Blanks suffered from a medical condition, but the Medical Examiner’s Office would be able to determine that, as well as the cause of death.

Blanks, of New Chapel Road in Spout Spring, left behind her husband, Jesse Blanks, sons G. Duane and David Blanks, daughter, Dorothy Phillips, and six grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox.
