ACHIEVEMENTS

Bedford

- Jefferson Forest High School senior Michael Kerr was recently selected by audition to the 2010 All-Virginia Band. Kerr placed 11th out of 74 students in trumpet. The All-State Band event will be held in Chesapeake in April.

Lynchburg

- Paul Munro Elementary School recently raised $550 for the Red Cross Haiti Relief Project. The school also recently gave food, blankets, towels and a $100 donation to the Humane Society.

- The following Paul Munro Elementary School students were named to the All-A Honor Roll for the first semester: Jackson Mutch and Remington Newton, third grade; Seth Oliver and John Riordan, fourth grade; and Sutton Blanchard and Carson Ferguson, fifth grade.

- The following Paul Munro Elementary School students were the top Accelerated Readers for the first semester: Matthew Feinman, George Burruss, Carson Ferguson, Sutton Blanchard, Jonathan Sewell, Jacob Selden, China White, Jamison Williams, Charles Sweeney, McKenzie Johnson, Jack Harner, Stori Hull, Ben Ailsworth, Marlena Ward, Alexis Ayala, Amaya Patterson, Hailemelkot Brouk, Tyler Cooper, Josh Sosin, Holly Hames, Rachael Johnson and Emily Wray.

- W. M. Bass Elementary School recently donated $436, bottled water, food and personal care items to Gleaning for the World to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

E.C. Glass High School

- SAT practice and two afterschool classes will be offered in April and May. Registration forms and information are posted on the ECG website and are available through English teachers and in Guidance.

- The Mercy Care Council and National Honor Society are collecting items for a used book sale and a yard sale in May. Clothes, household items, books, electronics, toys, appliances, furniture, etc. are all welcome. All donations must be clean and in good repair. Proceeds benefit The Mercy Care Centre School in Nairobi, Kenya. Tax receipts for donations can be arranged through the bookeeper at E.C. Glass. In addition, a group from E. C. Glass will travel to the Mercy Care School this summer to volunteer and bring supplies and clothing to the students and teachers. The following items are needed: washcloths, cotton underwear ( size 2 T-adult), pencils, colored pencils, erasers, small pencil sharpeners, small bars of soap, new or gently worn shoes ( size 2t-adult), soccer equipment, and used suitcases , duffle bags, etc. to carry supplies. Bring donated items to the Main Office at E. C. Glass, or to Mrs. Worsham in G101.
