Poplar Forest in Bedford County is inviting the public to attend a guided tour of the ongoing restoration of Thomas Jefferson’s retreat home Saturday.
The home is offering tours at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Director of Architectural Restoration Travis McDonald will lead visitors on the tour and later present a talk on museum house restoration.
Starting this year, visitors will have the opportunity to see interior restoration continue at Poplar Forest as workers begin installing the trim and entablature in each room.
McDonald was appointed to lead architectural restoration of Poplar Forest when the nonprofit began the effort in 1989. He earned his master’s degree in architectural history at the University of Virginia.
Advance tickets of the tours are not required but reservations are highly recommended. The tour and the presentation are included with regular house admission. Call (434) 534-8110 to make reservations.
