Jeffrey Clark, the independent candidate vying for the 5th District congressional seat, rescinded his conditional offer to withdraw from the race Thursday night.
Clark had offered to drop his bid if anyone stepped forward within 48 hours to claim responsibility for compiling and distributing public information about his personal finances. A recent news article documented Clark’s past debt troubles and a 1993 bankruptcy filing.
No one had claimed responsibility, Clark said in a news release.
Clark said Democratic incumbent Tom Perriello’s campaign had denied involvement with distributing the information, but Republican opponent Robert Hurt’s campaign had not.
