Lynchburg attorney Mark Peake announced Tuesday that Del. Scott Garrett, R-Lynchburg, and city Sheriff Ron Gillispie have endorsed his candidacy for state Senate in the new 22nd District, which reaches from northern Lynchburg to Goochland County.

Peake is seeking the Republican nomination against four other candidates in a primary election Aug. 23.

Garrett said, “Mark already has the confidence of the governor and the other members of the General Assembly representing this area,” and “he can be as effective in Richmond as he has been here.”

Gillispie said Peake “has always put public safety and education first on his list of priorities.”

The 22nd District, created by the General Assembly in late April, includes northern Lynchburg and Amherst and Appomattox counties, along with six other counties running east to Richmond’s suburbs.
