Mark Peake, a state Senate candidate from Lynchburg in the Aug. 23 Republican primary, said Monday that construction of a U.S. 29 bypass in the Charlottesville area would be “a giant jobs creator.”
“It makes a great deal of sense for the taxpayers at a time when Virginians are seeking new jobs and opportunity,” Peake said.
The project would carry U.S. 29's through traffic around many, but not all, of the traffic lights in northern Albemarle County.
The 22nd state Senate district, created during this year's redistricting process, runs from northern Lynchburg to Goochland County near Richmond. The other candidates in the Aug. 23 primary are Claudia Tucker of Amherst County, Brian Bates of Buckingham County, Tom Garrett of Louisa County, and Bryan Rhode of Goochland County.
