Lynchburg-area unemployment its lowest since 2008

Lynchburg-area unemployment continued falling this spring, hitting 6.5 percent in April.

That is the region’s lowest unemployment rate since the end of 2008.

According to Virginia Employment Commission data, every locality in the region has seen a significant drop in unemployment in the past year. In April 2010, the region’s unemployment rate was 7.5 percent.

The number of Lynchburg-area residents with jobs has jumped by more than 3,000 this year, reaching nearly 117,600 in April.
