Appomattox lawyer Evans Thomas said Monday he will seek the Republican nomination for the House of Delegates in the 59th District.
Thomas, who also has a law office in Cumberland County, was the first to announce his candidacy after Del. Watkins Abbitt, I-Appomattox, said last week he will retire after 26 years in the House.
“We need a delegate who will work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for the people of rural Virginia,” said Thomas, who has lived in Appomattox for 14 years.
Thomas unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Appomattox County Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2003.
The 59th District includes the counties of Appomattox and Buckingham, and parts of Albemarle, Campbell and Nelson counties.
