The Lynchburg Dog Park project is well within sight of its fundraising goal after months of hard work.
Today, organizers will hold a new fundraiser in the form of a rabies vaccination clinic, hosted by the Boonsboro Animal Hospital. The hospital will donate all clinic proceeds to the dog park fund. Vaccines will be offered at a discount of about 40 percent.
The dog park project, a volunteer-led initiative, is working to bring Lynchburg its first public dog park. The city already agreed to donate land for the facility, but citizens must raise the money for equipment such as benches and a fence.
Supporters estimate they’ll need a minimum of $35,000 to buy the basic amenities required to open the park.
As of Oct. 31, they had raised $31,000.
The dog park has pursued several high-profile fundraising efforts this year, including entering an online contest that promised a big cash prize to one lucky contestant. Lynchburg narrowly missed out on the prize after finishing in second place.
Today’s rabies vaccination clinic will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Boonsboro Animal Hospital, 6097 Boonsboro Road, Lynchburg. The clinic offer one-year vaccinations for $10 and three-year vaccinations for $12.
Dogs and cats must be at least 15 weeks of age to be vaccinated. They should be on a leash or in a carrier.
