At 93.2 percent, Jefferson Forest High School had the highest four-year graduation rate of area public high schools, according to figures released today.
Statewide, nearly 87 percent of students in the class of 2011 graduated after four years of high school.
The Virginia Department of Education said Tuesday that the on-time graduation rate for public high school students who were first-time ninth-graders in 2007-08 was 86.6 percent, slightly more than a percentage point higher than that of the previous year's class.
Of the 97,865 students who began high school in 2007, the dropout rate was 7.2 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year's class.

- Jefferson Forest High - 93.6 percent
- Liberty High - 89.2 percent
- Staunton River High - 88.3 percent
- Brookville High - 87.7 percent
- Amherst County High - 87.6 percent
- Altavista High - 86.2 percent
- Nelson County High - 85.3 percent
- William Campbell High - 84 percent
- Appomattox County High - 82.3 percent
- Rustburg High - 80.8 percent
- E.C. Glass High - 80.4 percent
- Heritage High - 79.5 percent
The 2010-11 academic year was the first that high schools had to meet annual graduation and completion benchmarks to earn full state accreditation. The Department of Education said last week that 86 percent of public high schools are fully accredited, down from 99 percent.
