An Amherst County man was killed Tuesday morning after a log truck collided with his vehicle, officials said.
Phillip Grege Sparrow, 55, from the Gladstone area, was driving east on Riverville Road and apparently failed to stop at the road's intersection with Piedmont Road, said Deputy Robert Oliver, with the Amherst County Sheriff's Office.
A tractor-trailer fully loaded with logs slammed into the driver's side of Sparrow's 2002 Ford Contour in the intersection, said Oliver, who was dispatched to the scene just before 9:50 a.m.
Sparrow was pronounced dead at the scene, Oliver said.
The Contour was destroyed, and the tractor-trailer had to be towed.
Oliver said police do not believe speed, drugs or alcohol were involved in the wreck.
The Amherst County Sheriff's Office and the James River Regional Crash Team are investigating.
