A statewide burning ban is in effect starting Wednesday, Feb. 15, coinciding with the start of the spring fire season.
The law prohibits burning before 4 p.m. from Feb. 15 to April 30 if the fire is within 300 feet of woodland, brushland or fields containing dry grasses or other flammable materials.
Campbell County officials ask that residents use extreme caution with fire and all outdoor burning should be avoided, if possible.
Violating the burning ban is a Class 3 misdemeanor, punishable by up to a $500 fine. Those who allow a fire to grow out of control are liable for costs associated with extinguishing the blaze and damage to property.
