Campbell board’s critics uninformed
It was disappointing to read the article “Group Opposes Tax Idea” in the Feb. 4 issue of The News & Advance which reported Americans for Prosperity’s attack on our Campbell County Board of Supervisors.
Audrey Jackson, the director of the Virginia AFP chapter, does not live in Campbell and knows nothing of the budget situation here. However, she has, with a surprising lack of concern for the truth, irresponsibly injected AFP into our budget concerns. She creates the impression that the members of the Board of Supervisors are dedicated to increasing our taxes when the truth is we have had no tax increase in this county in many years.
Jackson said, “It is time for the Campbell County supervisors to learn to live within their means.”
In fact, they have been doing this over the past decade. Our supervisors believe in limited government, free markets and low taxes and have worked very hard to maintain services to Campbell County residents while avoiding any new taxes. They have cut the county budget numerous times and eliminated all of the “fat” without endangering the safety or quality of life we enjoy here.
Their commitment to fiscal conservatism is clear and unassailable. Their commitment to “living within their means” has been proven over and over again.
Why would Americans For Prosperity attack solid conservatives? It makes no sense. AFP should cease undermining the hard work of those who are on the front line for conservative values.

Voting and showing IDs
A few thoughts on the Feb. 3 editorial, “Where’s the evidence of voter fraud?” You don’t get evidence without looking for it.
The simple act of showing who you are to the poll worker when you exercise the privilege of voting should not be more offensive than when you show similar ID when you cash a check, use a VISA card, drive a car or buy alcoholic beverages if you’re at a questionable age.
Why are the Democrats afraid of this? It is absolutely not a racial thing, not black or white. Just an assurance that you or who you are as on the books.
Honesty is not to be assumed these days (it’s not taught), and this is another reason why it should be a privilege to show your ID or follow the rules in place.
