Bond denied in federal child pornography case

A Lynchburg man was denied bond in a federal child pornography case in Charlottesville.

Jesse Leon Coleman, 47, appeared in a detention hearing Monday morning, said Brian McGinn, with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Virginia.

Coleman was charged federally along with seven others from across the nation with conspiracy to distribute child pornography.

Indictments unsealed early this month implicated Coleman as one of the recipients of child pornography. The investigation began in 2010 in Indiana, involving a distributor known as Anthony Danilov, who investigators said used Russian web pages and email addresses to distribute hundreds of explicit images and videos featuring mostly young boys.

A conviction under federal child pornography laws typically carries a sentence of five to 20 years in prison. Those with past sexual assault or child pornography convictions face a sentence of 15 to 40 years in prison.

McGinn said Coleman’s trial date is set for April 3 through April 5.
