Lynchburg water was deemed safe to drink again Sunday morning after a water main break Friday contaminated the drinking supply in parts of the city.
A contractor hit a 12-inch main in the Wards Road area, city officials said. Residents in part of the city were urged to boil tap water before drinking it or using it to drink food.
The break impacted the Wards Road area between Fort and Atlanta avenues, Fenwick Drive, Glenfield Drive, Kenwood Place, Perkshire Place, Middleboro Drive, Killarney Place, Woodall Road, Border Street, Short Street, Seminole Avenue and Glass Avenue, including the River Ridge Mall, the Shakers and Red Lobster restaurants.
The city resolved the problem within the 48-hour expected timeline and apologized to residents for the inconvenience, according to a city news release.
