Lynchburg family escapes duplex fire

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Lynchburg family of four was displaced by a duplex fire this morning, but no one was injured.

Firefighters arrived at 1106 Heath Avenue, near Fort Avenue, at 8:17 a.m.

The family of two adults and two children, who lived in the apartment of the duplex where the fire occurred, escaped safely. Fire officials removed a woman in a wheelchair from the other apartment.

It appears the fire started on a mattress, but officials will investigate the cause, said Battalion Chief Ninette Heath.

The Historic Virginia chapter of the Red Cross is putting the family in a hotel for three nights and gave them money for clothes and groceries, said Red Cross disaster services manager Beverly Gaydas.
