Big Brother at his absolute worst

What kind of situation have we gotten ourselves into when a majority of folk representing us in the General Assembly, claiming to be strongly against government interference in our private lives, passes legislation that requires doctors to insert an ultrasound probe into a young woman’s uterus and show her the picture when she is trying to decide whether or not to have an abortion — and require her to sign an affidavit to the effect if she believes it is not helpful or good for her to look at that picture?!

This is not the kind of government non-intrusion I want to allow quietly to pass to my children and grandchildren and future generations. There is too much destructive history of that kind of non-intrusion already.

If you have been mostly quiet while all this has been going on and have had a different opinion of what is right, it is time for you and I to be quiet no longer. We have to stop this.

GOP assault on women

Have you wondered how any woman with a functioning brain is able to support Republican legislators and politicians, mostly men, as they repeatedly press on with their unrelenting assault on women?

These are not real men, but rather they are shells of men. Insecure in their masculinity, they are obsessed with the pathological need to control the less fortunate and powerful, women being in that category. It’s not enough for these men to force women to give birth resulting from rape or incest. In addition, they want to deny women reasonable access to contraceptives, even while men can have their erectile dysfunction medications covered by health insurance. Next, they want to prevent women from getting the essential and critical medical services, other than abortion, that Planned Parenthood provides. Lastly, they are opposed to low-income women, particularly those with children, from having access to mainstream health insurance.

Like me, you must be impressed at how well and lovingly these men watch out for their women. However, if women enjoy being treated as sex objects whose sole value is to produce babies, more power to them. In any case, they will find a safe haven in the Republican Party that harbors corporations, those rich who are selfish and heartless, and rural whites who can’t accept the fact that we live in a diverse, multi-racial and multi-cultural society.
