Campbell County will unveil its enhanced website Friday.
The site, containing everything from historical facts to tax information, has a redesigned homepage and gives users access to the county’s new e-newsletter, “Vision.”
Initiated last year, the redesign is “an effort to better serve our citizens and provide timely and pertinent information,” said the county’s director of information technology, Anne Blair, who presented the new homepage to the board of supervisors Tuesday. Residents still have access to all the same information, though some of it is now relocated.
“We realized that we wanted to make information more accessible to citizens,” said Blair, particularly when it comes to informing residents about the latest developments. Now the central focus on the homepage is news. Previously, the focus was on historical information, which is now on a page containing information about the county.
Once the site goes live Friday, said Campbell County Administrator David Laurrell, users can sign up for email subscriptions provid-ing notifications of noteworthy news items. Users then have the choice to visit the website for more information. Subscriptions were not available prior to the changes.
“We’re hoping just to have more engagement from citizens and to increase our customer service,” Blair said.
Another change users will see on the homepage is a rail along the left side containing “quick links,” which lead users to everything from meeting minutes to “e-Vision.” The quick links section will change to reflect timely information, such as a link to tax information during tax season.
“E-Vision” will be posted to the site monthly and include news, actions by the board of supervisors and updates to county services and programs. Created in Adobe Acrobat, the newsletter has small graphics and low-resolution photos to ensure easy access regardless of the user’s computer or internet provider. A limited number of print copies will be available at county libraries.
The switch to an e-newsletter will save the county about $16,000 annually. E-Vision replaces a printed newsletter mailed to residents.
Blair said the county will track website usage and newsletter subscriptions to determine if the changes are successful.
Citizens who want to receive hard copies can still do so by contacting the county at (434) 332-9570. Visit the website at www.co.campbell.va.us.
