Ward Armstrong catches up on emails and meets with clients in his Martinsville law office.
It's an eerie feeling for him because this day for the last twenty years, he's been in Richmond getting ready for Wednesday’s General Assembly session.
"It's a little sad. It's something I've done for twenty years and it's an adjustment. You wake up and all of a sudden you're not a delegate anymore,” said Armstrong.
As he reflects on his 10 terms representing Southside, he says his proudest accomplishment is helping develop the New College Institute in Uptown.
The outgoing house minority leader says he has no regrets over his campaign that target Appalachian Power.
He contends Republicans stacked the deck against him with redistricting.
"I happen to think I'm Tom Brady or Dan Marino. I can throw into triple coverage on every play, but obviously you can't. Looking back on it, it was virtually un-winnable,” said Armstrong.
But he says his public service isn't over.
I asked him if there’s any truth to rumors that he may run for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or Attorney General, and he said, "I'm pondering all my options both legal and political and certainly I think I have more to offer."
Perhaps an even more telling sign, he's even looking to open a law office in Richmond.
"I have no intention to close my office here, but I am looking to practice more state wide, and should I decide to run for state wide office, it doesn't hurt to have a residence there,” said Armstrong.
In the mean time he's going to enjoy his added free time with his family.
