Hillcats grab first win of season

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Lynchburg picked up its first win of the 2008 season Sunday as Hillcats starter Michael Crotta was nearly perfect through almost seven innings and the offense exploded for nine runs against Frederick in a 9-3 victory.
Crotta, a right hander, retired the first 18 batters he faced, before allowing a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Crotta left the game after the run, having not given up a hit through six and one-third innings. Every Hillcats batter recorded a hit, with both Jared Keel and Tony Mansolino homering, and designated hitter Kent Sakamoto driving in a run with a triple in the first.
Lynchburg scored one in the first, four in the fourth, and another four in the seventh, while the pitching staff allowed just two hits, to give the Cats 1-2 record at the close of the season-opening series. Lynchburg takes a day off on Monday, and returns to the road on Tuesday for a three-game series at Winston-Salem. Former first round draft pick Daniel Moskos is scheduled to make his first start for Lynchburg against the Warthogs.
