Baron Adams' return boosts Generals;

SUSSEX — Baron Adams’ return sparked William Campbell to its first victory of the season.

The senior quarterback threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more as the Generals swamped Sussex Central 41-0 Friday night on the road.

Adams connected with Terrence Younger for a 42-yard score in the first quarter and ran for a 9-yard touchdown to give the Generals a 14-0 lead.

William Campbell (1-1), which lost to Thomasville (N.C.) at home last Friday, scored three times in the second quarter to take a 34-0 lead into the half.

Adams, who missed last week’s game with an injured ankle, ran for an 8-yard touchdown and threw a 27-yard TD pass to Donald Byrd and a 31-yard TD pass to Stanley Peerman in the second quarter.

Adams completed 9 of 21 passes for 192 yards and ran seven times for 34 yards.

Altavista 31, Parry McCluer 0

ALTAVISTA — The Colonels rode the legs of Jamison Robinson to a season-opening victory.

Robinson ran for 159 yards and scored two touchdowns as Altavista beat Parry McCluer for the second straight season on opening night.

Robinson’s 5-yard TD run put the Colonels up 7-0. Daelyn Myers scored on a 2-yard run and Altavista led 14-0 after one quarter.

Jarrod Hunt threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Tavonne Payne in the second quarter, and Robinson scored his second touchdown, a 62-yard run, to push Altavista’s lead to 28-0 at halftime.

Amherst 42, Charlottesville 6

CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Lancers raced to a 42-0 halftime lead, running for 234 yards in an easy win against Black Knights (0-1).

Mario Vaughn returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown to get Amherst (1-1) off to a good start.

Anthony Rose, Jamal Glover, Tyreese Brown and Devonte Brown would add touchdown runs. Kirby Anderson returned a fumble 18 yards for a score.

Rose paced the Lancers with 80 yards on four carries. Glover ran seven times for 46 yards.

LCA 47, Dan River 23

RINGGOLD — Wide receiver Patrick Kelly scored three times — once on the ground and twice in the air — to give the Bulldogs (1-0) a win in their season opener.

Kelly went 51 yards on a reverse to start the scoring. He later caught touchdown passes of 35 and 45 yards, finishing with five catches for 148 yards.

LCA quarterback Mike Rocco was 14-for-18 for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

Desmond Rice led the Bulldogs on the ground, carrying the ball 14 times for 185 yards and three touchdowns.

Brookville 30, Tunstall 7

Ben Simmons and Logan Thomas each had two touchdowns to lead the Bees.

Simmons, who had 9 carries for 157 yards, staked Brookville to a 14-0 first-quarter lead with touchdown runs of 10 and 63 yards. Thomas finished off the Trojans with a pair of third-quarter scores on runs of 7 and 20 yards. Cody Witt added a 25-yard field goal for the Bees.

Brookville finished with 283 rushing yards to Tunstall’s 100.
